Are you wondering why the payment you received is less than the invoiced amount? This article explains the reason behind such discrepancies.

Transfer fees for developer payouts

When money travels across borders via a wire transfer, intermediary banks often deduct transfer fees. These charges can vary, typically ranging from USD 10 to USD 50, depending on the destination country and the specific banks involved in the process. These fees are usually applied automatically during the transfer, and you won’t see them itemized beforehand.

There are three common ways these transfer fees are handled:

  • SHA (shared costs): You, as the receiver, pay any fees charged by an intermediary or recipient banks, while the sender covers their bank's fees. This often results in you receiving slightly less than the invoiced amount.

  • OUR (sender pays all fees): The sender covers all transfer-related charges, ensuring you receive the full invoiced amount.

  • BEN (receiver pays all fees): You, as the receiver (beneficiary), are responsible for all transfer fees, leading to a larger deduction from the initial amount.

We use the SHA method for international payments. This approach is considered a fair way to distribute the costs of international transactions. This is the primary reason the amount you receive is lower than the invoiced amount.

If you’d like to estimate potential fees, note that payments are currently sent from the Czech Republic (CZ) via SWIFT wire transfer. For payments to the US, an Automated Clearing House (ACH) can be used if the local routing number is provided to identify the recipient’s bank. However, exact deductions can vary based on the banks involved in the process.

Please keep in mind that Apify’s payment methods and banking partners may change without prior notice.

Consider PayPal for future transactions

For more transparent and lower fees, along with faster transactions, consider using PayPal.

Since there’s only one intermediary between Apify and you (the developer), PayPal is the only party that may charge a fee, making the calculation more straightforward compared to wire transfers.
